From Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa TO South America, Brazil, Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro- Brazil- South America

        MY INDEPENDENT LEARNING                                                                                                   PROJECT 2015

Ever since 2010 (the Soccer world cup that was held in South Africa) I have had this strange desire to travel to Rio de Janeiro  Brazil, South America. I have always been fascinated by different cultures and languages largely due to the fact that I grew up in a multicultural and multilingual environment.

I completed the TEFL course offered at Stellenbosch University in January 2015 and really felt it is something that I have a passion for. I want to go teach English to foreign speakers next year. This is one of the places I am considering to go to. This means I will probably stay for one year!

That's some of the motivation for why I chose to do research on Rio de Janeiro and Brazil (I'll decide as I go along).

I specifically want to look at:
- Tourist destinations (that is what I'd want to be for a while before settling for a longer period)
- The language spoken (I'll have some fun videos of me pronouncing phrases and trying to figure out the language)
- The culture of the people
- The food types that are traditional dishes
- The average living costs
- The salary for TEFL teachers

This might seem like an odd topic to research, but I have an absolute passion for connecting with people and teaching of course so this fits in with parts of me that I am excited to explore.

ENJOY!

Teacher in the making!

Part of the PGCE course is, of course, to be challenged in terms of how to become the teacher we each dream of becoming.

The challenge for me, is to see each task we do in perspective. In the past three weeks, I have realized that this course will only benefit me if I really try to see the use of each activity in terms of the larger goal: to become a teacher adaptable to the environment I find myself in.

So, this task of keeping a blog and a twitter account is challenging!! But I intend to make the best of it (most of the time).
